Tuskers Lose Another Defensive Player, Sign NFL Vet Kevin Kaesviharn

Florida Tuskers News Release

ORLANDO, FL, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2010 - The defensive unit that started the Florida Tuskers turnaround two weeks ago against Omaha on Nov. 5 is beginning to bear little resemblance to the one that will attempt to send the team to the UFL title game this Friday night against the Nighthawks.

Results of a physical exam on Tuesday resulted in the Florida Tuskers placing corner back Nate Salley on injured reserve today, effectively ending his 2010 season. Salley was signed prior to Week 3 to replace the injured JR Reed. He played in five games at strong safety, recording eight tackles and a pass defense.

Salley becomes the 12th defensive starter or key reserve on the Tuskers team to go down with injury. Those players have missed 35 games so far.

To replace Salley, the Tuskers signed NFL veteran Kevin Kaesviharn. A former standout at Augustana College in South Dakota, Kaesiviharn went undrafted by the NFL in 1998 and signed a contract with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League. He posted two outstanding seasons, including earning first team All-Arena in 2000 with 10 interceptions.

Kaesviharn was drafted by the San Francisco Demons of the XFL in 2000. He played in 10 games for the Demons that season making 41 tackles with three interceptions. He caught the attention of NFL scouts and signed a free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers in 2001. After being waived in training camp, Kaesviharn joined the practice squad of the Cincinnati Bengals and was later promoted to the active roster. He would go on to play nine seasons in the NFL for the Bengals (2001-06), New Orleans Saints (2007-08) and Tennessee Titans (2009).

In 126 career NFL games, Kaesviharn made 58 career starts and recorded 479 total tackles with 41 pass defenses, 17 interceptions and six quarterback sacks. His top season came in 2006 when he had six interceptions in 14 games for the Bengals. He also started all 16 games for Cincinnati in 2007.

The Tuskers (4-3) close out the regular season this Friday against Omaha in Rosenblatt Stadium. A win over the Nighthawks (3-4) will advance the Tuskers to the UFL Championship Game on Saturday, Nov. 27 against the Las Vegas Locomotives. A win by Omaha (3-4) will send Daunte Culpepper and the Sacramento Mountain Lions (4-4) to the championship game.
