Florida Tuskers News Release
ORLANDO, FL - THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2010 Parker Douglass booted a 21-yard field goal as time expired to give the Las Vegas Locomotives a 20-17 win over the Florida Tuskers on Thursday night.
The win lifted the Locomotives to 1-1 on the season, while the Tuskers fell to 1-2. It was the first regular season game in league history that ended on the game's final play.
"They dominated in the first half and we were fortunate to go into the locker room with a tie," Tuskers head coach Jay Gruden said. "And we took a lead in the fourth, I thought we had a chance to take control. But give them credit, Rattay (QB Tim Rattay) led them down for a tying score."
The Tuskers took a 17-10 lead lead at the 6:36 mark in the 4th quarter on a 14-yard pass from Brooks Bollinger to Cortez Hankton. But the lead was short-lived as Ratay directed a five-play, 70-yard drive that ended in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ratay to Andrae Thurman. DeDe Dorsey has the key play in the drive, busting off a 47-yard run.
On Florida's ensuing possession, the Tuskers went three and out when they failed to convert on a third and three. That set up Las Vegas' game-winning drive.
Dorsey was a difference-maker in the game, combining for 204 rushing and receiving yards. Dorsey's totals included 99 yards rushing on 14 carries and seven catches for 105 yards.
"It was really frustrating tonight," Gruden added. "Offensively we could only put together a few first downs at the time and defensively we couldn't get off the field tonight."
The Locomotives drew first blood, taking the opening kickoff and driving down to the Orlando 20-yard line, but a holding penalty set them back and Parker Douglass missed on a 37-yard field goal attempt. But Vegas would jump out to a 7-0 lead on the last play of the first quarter, when Ratay hit Samie Parker on a 68-yard touchdown pass.
On Las Vegas' next possession, Rattay hit DeDe Dorsey on a 59-yard pass out of the backfield to set up a 20-yard Douglass field goal as Las Vegas took a 10-0 lead at the 7:24 mark of the second quarter.
Florida finally got on the board, driving inside the Locomotives 20-yard line, but a 17-yard sack stalled the drive and the Tuskers had to settle for a 45-yard Nick Novak field goal that made it a 10-3 game at the 2:33 mark of the second quarter.
The Tuskers would come back to tie it seconds later. With Las Vegas punting out of its own end zone, Aveion Cason broke several tackles and returned it 47 yards to the Locomotives 14-yard line. From there, Dominic Rhodes broke loose on the left side and took it the distance for the game-tying score at the 14-14.
For the game, Las Vegas dominated the statsoutgaining the Tuskers in total yardage, 485-214, and in first downs 21-18. The Locomotives also piled up 174 yards of rushing offense.
