
Turner Cup Finals: Fort Wayne Leads Series 2-1 after 3

FLINT, MI--- Flint earned their first win of the Turner Cup Finals after a high-scoring affair, earning the 7-6 overtime win over the Komets.
2010 Turner Cup LogoThe Generals opened up the scoring for the second straight game after a wild high-scoring first period. Flint went up 2-0 within the first five and a half minutes of the game, and then Fort Wayne answered with two of their own. The two teams traded goals 18 seconds apart before Flint capped off the wild period with another tally, putting the Generals up 4-3. Komet left wing Matt Syroczynski scored all three of Fort Wayne's first period goals, netting the first hat trick of the finals.
The Komets scored early in the second period when forward Justin Chwedoruk (4) came in from the left circle and crashed the net, putting the puck past Flint's Rob Nolan. Flint scored their fifth goal of the contest at the 14:11 mark when Generals captain Pascal Rheaume (5) took a Tyler Howells rebound and buried it past Komet goaltender Nick Boucher. The Komets evened the score 49 seconds later when Colin Chaulk scored his third goal of the playoffs.
Fort Wayne took the lead at the 14:08 mark of the third period when Chwedoruk (5) scored his second goal of the game, giving the Komets a 6-5 lead. Flint's Bryan Smolinski scored the game-tying goal on the Generals power play with 9.8 seconds left on the clock, sending the contest into the overtime.
The game-winning goal was scored at the11:52 mark of the first overtime after the puck trickled to Boucher's left and was picked up by Flint's Jamie Schaafsma who scored by wrapping the puck around the back of the net and burying his sixth goal of the playoffs, and his first game-winner.
Flint's Nolan earned his first win of the series, making 33 saves while Boucher earned his first loss of the series, making 31 saves.
Game Four will be played Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Perani Arena in Flint, Michigan with Fort Wayne leading the best-of-seven series 2-1.
