
Turfcats Add another Coach with NFL Ties

Austin, TX -The Austin Turfcats named a former Tampa Bay Buccaneer and Texas Longhorn as their new volunteer coach on Monday. Derik "Butch" Hadnot brings extensive experience both on and off the field to the Austin Turfcats.
Hadnot spent two years in the National Football League with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His additional pro football experience included three years in the Canadian Football League with the Shreveport Pirates and Toronto Argonauts.
His indoor experience is based on three years in the Arena Football League as a player and a coach. Hadnot coached with Turfcats' coaches Chris Duliban and Kerry Cash with the Austin Rockers, and he played for Coach Duliban with the Texas Terminators. At that time, Hadnot was third in the Indoor Professional Football League for rushing and fourth in scoring.
"I am so glad to be a Turfcat and extend my football involvement in Austin and Central Texas," Hadnot said.
Hadnot is a former running back for the University of Texas in Austin. In high school, the Kirbyville, Texas native scored 24 touchdowns in his senior year for the Wildcats. He was 1990 conference newcomer of the year for the Longhorns and held a freshman rushing record for years. His highlights included a 117-yards rushing in the Cotton Bowl versus the Miami Hurricanes, 75 yards versus the Mississippi State Bulldogs and a big 166-yard game versus the Red Raiders of Texas Tech.
Hadnot's contract becomes effective March 16, when he will begin working with the coaching staff and recruiting players for the team's first year in the Southern Indoor Football League. With a wealth of experience in nearly every level of the sport, Hadnot expects the Turfcats to compete for a playoff spot in year one of the new franchise.
"We keep adding more and more quality with this team, and Hadnot is a part of building a special franchise in the Southern Indoor Football League," Turfcats Vice-President/General Manager Ronald Oswalt said.
Hadnot is also involved locally involved in the community with neighborhood sports a non-profit organization, working with the NFL Youth Flag Football League.
