Austin, TX - The Austin Turfcats are pleased today because there was cause for celebration Monday at the Travis County Expo Center.
A truck loaded with turf and other equipment arrived by 9 a.m. to assure completion of the team's game day project.
"The turf and other stuff are here, and it is the correct color," said a happy Ronald Oswalt, vice-president/general manger.
"It came from Daytona Beach, Florida. The workmen had one end zone laid out by 2 p.m. But the rest of the equipment should be unpacked by 5 p.m. tomorrow hopefully."
The playing surface from goal line to goal line is covered with Sportexe turf. "So far, so good," said Oswalt, who has been overseeing the project's progress - and other administrative duties- the past several months.
"I think it's too early to say when they will be completely done. But I think it probably will be late Tuesday or early Wednesday."
That would be in time for some use by the first group of camp invitees to take the turf out for a spin this week.
Head Coach Chris Duliban had started practice in late March. That enabled an early start on installation of the turf inside the arena.
"I am convinced we are installing the one of the best surfaces out there," Duliban has said. "Not only will it play extremely firm and fast, but it's the safest surface you can play on today."
