Tupelo FireAnts News Release
The Tupelo FireAnts lost against the Ohio Valley Greyhounds, 44-21, Saturday night in Wheeling, WV.
While FireAnts QB Damon Smith completed four of eleven passes for 47 yards in the game, points came on the heels of the running game. RB Chris Rainey scored two touchdowns on the night and gained 56 yards on 12 attempts. FB Chris Newsome ran in a TD, too, but had limited yardage on the night, gaining four yards on three attempts throughout.
While the 'Ants made a solid effort in Ohio Valley, the top team in the Atlantic North continues on with their unblemished record of 8-0 on the season. The FireAnts, on the other hand now stand at 3-6, but a possible playoff birth is not totally out of the question. The FireAnts trail the Louisiana Rangers to take over the top slot in the Atlantic East division. If Tupelo plays well in June, the 'Ants might march their way into postseason play.
Up Next...The Rangers!
The Louisiana Rangers will travel to Tupelo this week for their first meeting with the FireAnts this season. The Rangers, 5-4, overall won their last game, 69-65, over the Winston-Salem Energy. The game gets underway at 7:05pm at the BancorpSouth Center this Saturday night. The first 500 people through the door will receive a free FireAnts license plate, courtesy of WKDH-45, North Mississippi's ABC. For more info, call the FireAnts at 620-BITE.
