Tulsa Shock News Release

TULSA, Okla. (June 1, 2010) - The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), in partnership with T-Mobile USA and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), will tip off WNBA Green Week presented by T-Mobile on Tuesday, June 1 and run through Tuesday, June 8.

During Green Week, the entire WNBA family will team up to generate awareness to protect the environment, as players wear special on court apparel and teams and players participate in hands-on community service projects. The WNBA.com microsite, www.wnba.com/green, will feature everything from greening tips for fans to interviews with WNBA players exploring why environmental awareness is important to them. Special programming for the league's green initiative and awareness efforts will also run on two nationally televised WNBA games June 1 on ESPN2: the Phoenix Mercury vs. the Minnesota Lynx at 7:30 p.m. ET and the Atlanta Dream vs. the Seattle Storm at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Five members of the Tulsa Shock - Chante Black, Shanna Crossley, Marion Jones, Natasha Lacy and Amanda Thompson - will be joined by the Shock front office staff to spread mulch, pull weeds and water and prune the park at the intersection of Riverside and 63rd Street.

The event is co-sponsored by Up With Trees - a local non-profit organization dedicated to planting, preserving and promoting Tulsa's urban forest. Up With Trees has been planting along streets and trails, in parks, schools, fire stations, neighborhoods, and many other public properties for more than 30 years.

"Up With Trees' mission perfectly aligns with the green goals established by the WNBA and the Tulsa Shock," said Shock President Steve Swetoha. "Tulsa is home for our players, coaches, staff and organization and it is our responsibility to care for and preserve the plentiful green space in this city."

"We are thrilled to be working with the Tulsa Shock on this project and other environmental initiatives," said Anna America, Executive Director of Up With Trees. "The Shock is a great example to youth of the importance of being healthy and staying active and that fits right in with our efforts to make Tulsa a greener, healthier city."
