Trenton Steel News Release

Linemen Nate Tucker and Malik Brown, who helped the Trenton Steel to an 8-4 mark and Southern Indoor Football League playoff berth in the team's inaugural season, have found spots on Arena Football League rosters.

Tucker, a 6-foot-3, 280-pound two-way tackle who played in all 12 Trenton Steel games, finished his collegiate career at NCAA Division II power Indiana University of Pennsylvania after first playing at Connecticut, was signed by the AFL's Cleveland Gladiators, who have three games remaining.

Brown, a 6-foot-2, 280-pound pass-rusher from the University of North Carolina, was signed by the Philadelphia Soul, who have two games left.

"I'm appreciative of the chance the Steel gave me to play ball,'' said Brown, who will be active when the Soul (5-11) welcome the Cleveland Gladiators at 8 pm. Friday in a game televised by The NFL Network.

"From what they are telling me, I could play a lot Friday,'' said Brown. "I definitely will be on the active roster.''

He won't, however, be matching up against former Steel teammate Tucker.

"I won't be active this week, when the Gladiators visit Philadelphia,'' said Tucker. "I will be for the week after when we play Pittsburgh at home. The game with the Power will also be televised by The NFL Network.

"This is just what I was hoping for, to have a chance to get to the next level. I thank the Steel organization and coaches for everything they did for me.''

"I'm happy for Nate,'' said Miller. "He is the type of athletic lineman who can play in the Arena Football League. He improved, and adjusted well, to the indoor game as our season went on.

''Malik really gave us a boost, and he certainly has the ability to play at that level.''

Brown began the season with the Soul, then landed on the injured list with a toe issue. He recovered to help the Steel pass rush.

"My play with the Steel really helped get me back into things, and get this chance to get back to the Arena League,'' Brown said.

Miller is a former Gladiators defensive coordinator.

Tucker joins an AFL club that is aiming for a playoff berth after a crucial 62-58 win at Milwaukee July 2. The Gladiators, under head coach Steve Thonn, are in first place in the American Conference's Eastern Division, with a game lead over Pittsburgh (8-7) with three games to play.
