Camay Signs with Tampa Bay Storm
July 18, 2011 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL)
Trenton Steel News Release
Craig Camay, the All-America kicker from Tennessee-Chattanooga, who was named Southern Indoor Football League Special Teams MVP in helping the first-year Trenton Steel Indoor Football Team to an 8-4 mark and a playoff berth, signed with the Arena Football League's Tampa Bay Storm Monday.
Camay, whose 34-yard field goal with time running out gave the Steel their first-ever win in Erie April 9, led the SIFL in both kick-scoring (160) and field goals (21).
Camay, a 5-11, 190-pounder, converted 21-of-34 field-goal attempts for a 61.8 percentage and 96-of-105 PATs for a 91.4 percentage. He is the fifth Steel player to sign with an AFL team, following linemen Nate Tucker (Cleveland), Melik Brown (Philadelphia) and Tyrell Zimmerman (Tulsa), as well as quarterback E.J. Nemeth (Utah).
After opening the season with four field goals against Richmond March 19, Camay set an SIFL record for longest successful field-goal kick with a 61-yarder against Fayetteville April 3.
"Dave Ewart, the Tampa Bay head coach, congratulated me and told me I was the new Storm kicker,'' said Camay. "I'll handle all the team's kicking in the final game vs. San Jose, and it is great exposure for me."
Both Tampa Bay (6-11 in the AFL American South) and San Jose (7-10 in the AFL National Conference West) have been eliminated from playoff contention.
"This whole season has been a great experience for me,'' said Camay. "The team in Trenton, especially with the Steel being a first-year club, treated me great. I couldn't ask for more.
"And I thank (Steel head coach) Rod Miller, who believed in me before, during and after the season. I'll always remember my experience in Trenton. ¬Ë'
