Tryout Reveals New Talent & Resigns Veterans
This past weekend the Florida Marine Raiders held their first tryout of the 2014 season at Lake Bonny Park. The tryout hosted over 30 players from around Polk County who are looking to attain a roster spot in training camp this February. The players were put through combine drills to test their physical capabilities and stamina.
While the tryout attracted an array of new local prospects the Raiders also had returning players showcasing their talents. The fan favorite Kendrick "K-Stew" Stewart paraded around the tryout with his signature dance moves and backflips, he was resigned to the team that afternoon.
Kendrick has been with the Raiders since the inaugural season in 2012. Kendrick was named to the all-league roster last season and looks to regain that form in 2014. He is a staple on the Raider's defensive line and has consistently proven his worth both on and off the field. In his spare time Kendrick coaches football at Victory Christian, maintains a job with Publix, and trains for the upcoming season. Kendrick also lends a hand where he can at various community functions with a focal point of helping mentor the youth of Polk County.
The Raiders next tryout is set for November 2nd with a location TBA. All positions are open on the team's roster and players will be able to fight for starting jobs at training camp in February. The tryouts serve as a platform for the coaching staff to evaluate local talent until they compile the list of invites for training camp.
