Florida Marine Raiders News Release
Palm harbor Fl- Just when you thought things were over for the Marine Raiders at the end of April, then came the month of May. The Marine Raiders traveled to Birmingham, Alabama on Friday night and came out with the biggest victory of the season with a 44-38 win over the Alabama Outlawz to improve to 4-3 and take over the 2nd place spot in the X-League. This game was just an old fashion X-League backyard brawl. It was a match-up between two physical teams that traded touchdowns quarter after quarter. "I was impressed with our heart and will to win with our backs to the wall." said Head Coach Michael Mink. "We had to go into a hostile environment and fight with everything we had for a win. I knew with a healthy Levi Raines Jr. (3 Touchdowns) we were going to run the ball effectively." said Mink.
The Offensive Line paved the path for our base offense with Matt Parsons at QB (2 TD's) and the new Raider Wildcat game continued to keep us on top with every possession. Maurice Francois added another Touchdown to complete all the scoring. The Defense played hard all night and were inspired by Linebacker Prince Hall's interception in the end zone to hold on to the Marine Raiders' lead. "I was really excited to see the pressure our Defensive Line put on the QB which enabled me to drop 2 Backers in coverage at times in order to hold down the league's leading passer." said Mink. "We have to turn our focus to Georgia ASAP and get back to work Tuesday to get a big win at home for our fans."
Levi Raines Jr was named the X-Factor of the Game with 3 TD's and 4 two point conversions. The Florida Marine Raiders play at home May 17th at the Lakeland Center against the Georgia Rampage on Saturday Night at 7pm. The Marine Raiders will celebrate Military Appreciation Night with allowing all active duty and military veterans in the game free with ID.
