Truly Festival Weekend this Time...

The Run for the Roses is still several weeks away, however the Dash for Dog Biscuits takes place Friday as part of the Mississippi Surge's Festival weekend.

The Surge has home games Friday and Saturday each against the Augusta RiverHawks. Each night starts at 7:05, and each has a special theme.

Friday will be the second annual Pucks & Paws night, benefiting the Humane Society of South Mississippi. Fans who come to the game are asked to bring pet supplies, such as canned food, peanut butter, pet blankets, kitty litter, and other pet items. Those will be donated to the humane society.

In addition, the first intermission will feature the Wiener Dog race on ice. A field of at least eight pooches are expected to go to the post in the dachshund dash. There is still time enter your dog in the race by calling Michael Dixon at the Surge office at 594-3800.

Saturday will mark the return of the annual Surge Mardi Gras night. The festival will include the parade on ice during the first intermission. During the game, Surge players will wear special Mardi Gras jerseys that will be auctioned after the game.

Tickets for all Surge games are on sale now. Discounts include students, military personnel and casino employees. The team also has a new line of exciting merchandise available.
