Mississippi Surge News Release
You can't blame the Mississippi Surge players for feeling they've had their fill of Louisiana IceGator goaltender Riley Gill for awhile.
Gill posted his second straight shutout over the Surge Thursday night in Lafayette in a 2-0 win. He turned aside all 29 shots he faced on Thursday, after registering a 26 save shutout against the Surge on Tuesday. The consecutive shutouts have run the Surge scoreless streak to 156 minutes and 50 seconds.
Gill's effort overshadowed a strong showing by B.J. O'Brien getting his first start in goal for the Surge. O'Brien surrendered only a power play goal by Matt Robertson with 10 and half seconds left in the first period. O'Brien ended the evening making 33 saves in 34 shots. Matt Miller scored into an empty net with only two and a half seconds left for Louisiana's second goal.
The Surge face the Augusta RiverHawks in back to back home games Friday and Saturday. Each game starts at 7:05 p.m. at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Friday is Puks and Paws night to benefit the Humane Society of South Mississippi. Fans are asked to bring canned pet food, pet blankets, kitty litter and other pet supplies. During the first intermission, there will be "Wiener Dog Races". On Saturday the Surge will have its annual Mardi Gras parade on ice. The Surge will wear special Mardi Gras jerseys that will be auctioned immediately after the game.
