Motor City Metal Jackets News Release

Wyandotte, Mich - Jordy Trottier scored two third period goals to lead the Mahoning Valley Phantoms to a 5-3 win over the Motor City Machine on Saturday evening at Yack Arena.

The Phantoms set the tone for the game early, scoring 59 seconds in on a goal by Brnadon Saad. Mahoning Valley would add another five minutes later when Cole Schneider lit the lamp.

But Motor City would not back down, as defenseman Reed Rushing joined the play and scored a shorthanded goal at 11:55. Trevor John and Nick Taurence assisted on the tally, Rushing's second of the season.

The score lasted until the final five minutes of the second period when Alex Lippincott added to Mahoning Valley's lead. Erik Higby and Brad Smith assisted.

But again, the Machine answered as Jared Williams scored in the final 30 seconds of the period to cut the lead to one, 3-2, entering the third period.

Jake Friedman and Ryan Misiak assisted on the goal.

But the Phantoms struck the games' decisive blows early in the third period, as Trottier scored on the power play at 5:36 and again on an unassisted goal at 7:03.

The power play goal was Mahoning Valley's only strike with the man advantage, as Motor City killed the other 10 attempts.

After a string of penalties against the Machine, Adam Kuhn sniped the top right corner with a great shot from the circle to cut the lead to 5-3. Kevin Bechard and Williams assisted.

But the Phantoms were able to hold on to the two-goal advantage, picking up two wins in Wyandotte over the weekend.

Williams was named the game's No. 3 star while Trottier's two-goal third period was enough to earn him No. 1 star honors.

The Machine are off until next weekend when they rematch the St. Louis Bandits in St. Louis. It is the start of a seven game road swing, as they Machine don't return to Yack until Nov. 1 against Team USA.

The Motor City Machine is in their first season in Michigan as members of the North American Hockey League. The Motor City Machine are formerly the Southern MN Express in which they made the playoffs three straight years and twice into the Robertson Cup finals.
