
Tropics Head to Utica Still in Pursuit of No. 1 Seed for MASL Playoffs

UTICA, N.Y. - The Florida Tropics will continue their four-game road trip in Utica Sunday afternoon still in pursuit of the Major Arena Soccer League's No. 1 seed for next month's playoffs.
Florida is coming off a 6-5 win Friday night in Harrisburg, and improved to 17-2-1, good for 52 points. The Sockers will play two games this weekend, starting Saturday night in Baltimore and then Sunday afternoon in Harrisburg. They are 19-01, good for 54 points. The two will play in San Diego Thursday night; the night prior Florida will play in Ontario.
The Tropics have already clinched the Eastern Division title, and are assured of being no worse than the No. 2 overall seed in the post-season. Florida will finish a five-games-in-10 days stretch at home on Sunday, April 3, when they host the Baltimore Blast.
Utica comes in fighting for a playoff spot. With a record of 7-14-0, five points out of the fifth and final wild card playoff spot. They are coming in off a costly 6-3 loss Friday against Baltimore, and are led by former Tropics standout Joey Tavernese who has 16 goals and eight assists.
The Tropics are led by Captain Victor Parreiras with 24 goals and 20 assists. Ricardo Carvalho and Zach Reget have 23 goals each.
