Florida Tropics SC News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Tropics have continued to reload their roster throughout the middle of a historic season with the addition of William Eyang, a talented Forward, and Netherlands native Gerritson Craane, former SEU standout and Tropics SC UPSL National Championship defender. Eyang, a native of Cameroon, has been a proven talent on offense over his various indoor and outdoor careers. Craane started nearly every game at outside back for the Tropics National Championship team and has also made 2 appearances in 2018 for the MASL first team. Per team and league policies, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Eyang joins the Tropics after recent stints with NISA side Atlanta SC and USL side Orlando City B. The 26-year-old forward, who also produced a solid goal-scoring record in the Swedish leagues, provides pace, power and depth to the Tropics front line.
Craane attended local college Southeastern University where he played under Coach Clay Roberts. Craane set the tone right from the start scoring in his first collegiate match. In total, he made 16 appearances during his freshman season, leading the team in scoring with nine goals and scoring in six consecutive matches. As a sophomore, Craane appeared in eleven matches before suffering a season-ending injury. Despite his injury, he tallied six goals and three assists and earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors for The Sun Conference. The next season, 2015, he scored four goals in eighteen matches after returning from injury. The Fire went on to be crowned The Sun Conference Champions that season, with Craane setting up the game-winning goal with a run down the flank before sending a cross into the box in the championship match. Including the playoffs, Craane tallied a team high of 11 assists for the season and was named to The Sun Conference All-Conference Second Team
"Craane and Eyang bring necessary depth to our lines as we approach the playoffs and end of the regular season. Going through a full season can bring unexpected injuries or conflicts that we hope Craane and Eyang can fill. They are both high energy players who will bring the level of competitive we are looking for as we strive towards winning a MASL championship" Tropics Head Coach Clay Roberts said.
The Tropics look to rebound after an overtime loss to The Milwaukee Wave. They still are top of the Eastern Conference standings at 14-2. They will welcome for the first time Mexican side Soles de Sonora at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland this Saturday, February 22nd. Kickoff is at 5:05 p.m. ET. Tickets are available at fltropics.com, or by calling 863-240-0101. The game will be broadcast live on Tampa's Great 38, WTTA-TV (Spectrum Channel 6), as well as online at MASL.tv.
