May 20, 2015 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - With the season now just six days away, the Fayetteville SwampDogs are hard at work preparing for the 2015 Summer of Fun. That includes adding talent to the roster, with the latest addition being Zak Orrison of the University of Mount Olive.
Orrison, a junior middle infielder from Fuquay-Varina, N.C., joins teammates Hunter Barnett and Kodi Whitley at "The Swamp."
Orrison, who played for the Peninsula Pilots of the Coastal Plain League during the 2014 summer, was an offensive star for the Trojans this spring. He hit .358 with 14 doubles, two triples and three home runs during the season.
In addition to his power, Orrison flashed great speed, swiping 33 bases while only getting caught five times. The 33 stolen bases were the fourth-highest total in NCAA Division II.
The University of Mount Olive Trojans finished the 2015 season with a 39-16 record overall, and went 19-7 in Conference Carolinas play.
The Fayetteville SwampDogs are in their 15th season playing in the Coastal Plain League. The SwampDogs are one of the most successful franchises in the league's history, making the Petitt Cup Playoffs eight times in the past 10 seasons, reaching the championship round three times. The SwampDogs boast 84 alumni taken in the draft and have produced six players who have gone on to play in Major League Baseball. The SwampDogs open their season on Tuesday, May 26th with a 7:05 pm tilt with the Morehead City Marlins at J.P. Riddle Stadium. To reserve your seats for the 2015 Summer of Fun or for more information, call the SwampDogs offices at 910-426-5900.
