
Tresca Lights the Lamp Twice, Lumberjacks Take 1-0 Series Lead over Madison in Eastern Conference Final

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Lumberjacks alternate captain pushed home a pair of lamplighters as Muskegon shut down the Madison Capitols by a final score of 5-to-2 in Game 1 of the best-of-five Eastern Conference Final on Friday, May 6, 2022, from Mercy Health Arena. Jacob Guevin picked up a trio of points, Quinn Hutson earned two assists while David Hymovitch and Joey Larson each scored their first career playoff goals as the Jacks control a 1-0 series lead over Madison.
1st Period
For the fifth playoff game in a row, the Lumberjacks scored first, this time from alternate captain Phil Tresca at 7:50 of the first period to make it a 1-to-0 lead for Muskegon. Tresca's second playoff goal was assisted by Jacob Guevin and Tyler Hotson.
Almost two minutes later, the Captiols would respond with an unassisted goal from Jack Musa to tie the game 1-to-1. Musa's fifth goal of the postseason leveled the score in the opening period of the Conference Final.
After 20 minutes in Game 1, both teams skated to a 1-to-1 tie heading into the first intermission.
2nd Period
The Capitols would pull ahead to a 2-to-1 lead 3:58 into the second period after a goal from Nick DeSantis to give the Caps the lead. DeSantis' first playoff goal was assisted by Jack Horbach and Jack Musa.
The Jacks would tie the game at 6:50 of the second with David Hymovitch clocking in to score the equalizer 2-to-2. Hymovitch's first career playoff goal was assisted by Parker Lindauer.
While shorthanded, Muskegon's Phil Tresca would find some room to put the Lumberjacks back up by one with the 3-to-2 shorthanded goal Tresca's second goal of the game, and third of the playoffs, went unassisted to give Muskegon the lead.
Jacob Guevin fired home a one-time slapshot while Muskegon was on the power play to build a two-goal, 4-to-2 lead in the middle period. Guevin's third playoff goal was assisted by Quinn Hutson and Ben Strinden.
At the end of 40 minutes in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final, the Lumberjacks sat in the driver's seat up 4-to-2 going into the final period of regulation.
3rd Period
At 3:54 in the third period, Muskegon's Joey Larson put the game away to make it 5-to-2 in the final period of regulation. Larson's first career playoff goal was assisted by Quinn Hutson and Jacob Guevin.
In the end, the Lumberjacks held strong defensively to defeat the Madison Capitols in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final, leading the best-of-five series 1-0.
On Deck
Muskegon will return to Mercy Health Arena for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final on Saturday, May 7 with puck drop at 7:00 pm EDT. Games 3 and 4 (if necessary) will be Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10, respectively, from Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton, Wisc. with faceoff slated for 8:00 pm EDT both nights. If the series goes the distance, Game 5 (if necessary) will be back in Muskegon on Thursday, May 12 at 7:00 pm EDT from Mercy Health Arena. The Eastern Conference Final is a best-of-five format, meaning a team needs to win three games in the series to advance to the Clark Cup Final.

2022 Camp Dates
The Muskegon Lumberjacks have announced their 2022 Camp Dates for the upcoming season. Registration is now open for the Prospect 07-08 Camp, which runs from May 27-29, 2022 at Mercy Health Arena in downtown Muskegon. Goalie camp is scheduled for June 4-5, 2022, at the Lakeshore Sports Centre.
