Florida Seals News Release
Orlando â The Orlando Seals continue to face goaltending woes as they dropped their third straight game Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to the Macon Trax. Mike Fournier had the only goal for Orlando.
Orlando continues to play without their top goaltending tandem as both David Goverde and Mike Correia continue to nurse knee injuries.
The Trax struck first, scoring on only their second shot of the game. John Gurskis streaked into the Seals zone on the left wing side for a good shot. Varriale made the initial save but could not contain the rebound that fell right on the stick of Edan Welsh at the opposite side of the goal crease. Welsh snapped a shot into the open net for a 1-0 Macon lead.
Orlando killed off three power plays in the first period, including a 16 second two-man advantage to remain within one goal.
The Seals knotted the score at 1-1 just over half-way through the second period on Fournier's chip shot over a sprawling Geoff Faulkner. After Mike Sanderson made the initial play around the Macon net, Fournier drove hard to the net from the blue line, gaining the inside position on the defender to notch his 4th goal this season.
Macon regained the lead late in the second on a power play tally from Gurskis with only 38 seconds remaining in the period. Faulkner's 15 saves in the third period kept the Seals from tying the game and improved his record to 11-9-2.
The Seals host Miami on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. All Seals games can be heard at www.IRN.FM.
