Edmonton Trappers News Release

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Trapper Baseball Club, set to begin their 24th season in the Pacific Coast League, announced the 2004 schedule today. The Trappers will begin the season with an eight-game homestand at Desert Sun Stadium in Yuma, Arizona. Edmonton will take on the defending PCL Champions, the Sacramento River Cats, in a season opening four-game set which will begin on Thursday, April 8. The Trappers will also play a four-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies in Yuma. In addition to the eight-game homestand in Arizona the Trappers are also moving a four-game series in August against the Iowa Cubs to Des Moines in order to accommodate the World Cup of Women's Baseball, which will be held at TELUS Field. The club will return home to Edmonton on Saturday, April 24 for the Home Opener against the Tacoma Rainiers.

"We were faced with a situation where we would be playing eight games in early April at TELUS Field," stated Trappers COO Rick LeLacheur. "Given the weather the last couple of seasons in April we felt the best way to ensure that those games would be played would be to start the season in Yuma."

The 2004 season will be the Trappers second as the Triple-A affiliate of the Montreal Expos. Last season's club, under the guidance of Manager Dave Huppert, won the North Division Championship and finished the campaign with a 73-69 record, five games ahead of second place Portland. Edmonton led the league with a .292 team batting average with several regulars finishing with better than .300 batting averages. Outfielders Peter Bergeron and Matt Cepicky each eclipsed the .300 mark, while Valentino Pascucci finished second on the club in both home runs (15) and RBI (85).
