Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- After three hectic days of practicing and scrimmages, the stage has been set for the Wheat Kings Annual Intrasquad Game, to be held Sunday afternoon at Brandon's Keystone Centre.

Two goals by veteran defenceman Daryl Boyle Saturday night lifted the Gold Team to a 7-4 victory over the Blacks and a sweep of the day's 2-game scrimmage series.

Matt Kirkpatrick, Lucas Mikkelson, Nathan Green as well as veterans Tyler Dittmer and Theran Yeo also scored for the Gold Team, who doubled up on Team Black 6-3 earlier in the day.

In that game, the Gold got goals from six different players including Boyle and Yeo - two of Brandon's six returning defencemen. The other goals came off the sticks of Green, Kirkpatrick, Dittmer and 15-year old Scott Glennie.

A 15-year old product of Winn ipeg and Brandon's second round pick in the 2006 Western Hockey League bantam draft, Glennie is not eligible to play with the Wheat Kings this season.

17-year old center Matt Hallick had two goals in a losing cause for the Blacks, who were outshot to the tune of 42-32 on Saturday night.

Veterans Mark Derlago, Bryan Kauk and Dustin Kohn scored goals for the Blacks in game one.

Sunday's Intrasquad game, which is a presentation of the Canad Inns Brandon, is scheduled for 2 p.m., with doors to the Keystone Centre opening at 1 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children.

Handling the coaching duties in this year's Intrasquad game will be Wheat King assistants Brad Wells and Dwayne Gylywoychuk as well as former captains Ryan Craig of the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning and Tim Konsorada of the Columbus Blue Jackets American Hockey League affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. Brandon's pre-season kicks off on Friday night with a game against the visiting Swift Current Broncos. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and tickets to that game will go on sale Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
