Grand Rapids Drive News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Devin Ebanks blocked the shot of Davion Berry on a layup attempt with 8.4 points left in the game to preserve the win and help the Grand Rapids Drive rally from 18 points down on Monday night.
Ebanks had a team-high 22 points as Grand Rapids beat the Maine Red Claws 112-107 in front of 2,082 fans at the DeltaPlex Arena.
Grand Rapids, the affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, improves to 17-16. Maine, whose parent team is the Boston Celtics, snaps a six-game winning streak and falls to 20-14.
Ebanks, a 6-foot-9 forward out of West Virginia, was 8-of-19 from the field, and has at least 20 points in five of his last six games. Henry Sims, a 6-foot-11 center out of Georgetown had his 10th double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Dahntay Jones had a season-high 21 points, Kam Holsey added 18 points and Gary Talton had 13 points and seven assists.
But it was Kelsey Barlow, a 6-foot-5 guard out of Illinois-Chicago, who gave Grand Rapids the scoring punch it needed in a slow first half. He scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half and was 4-of-6 from 3-point range.
Coty Clarke led Maine with 20 points. But it was Omari Johnson who had the hot hand early. He had 16 of his 19 points in the first half, including four threes. Levi Randolph had 18 points, Corey Walden 13 and Malcom Miller 12.
Jones had a spin move from the base line and threw down a thunderous dunk to give Grand Rapids a 91-87 lead with 9 minutes left in the game.
Grand Rapids was down by as many as 18 points in the first half. Jones drained back-to-back 3-pointers early in the third quarter. Five minutes later, a Talton jumper tied the game at 68-68.
Johnson had 16 points at the half - including four 3-pointers - as Maine led 61-51 at halftime.
Johnson scored eight of Maine's first points as the Red Claws jumped out to an 11-1 lead to start the game. Grand Rapids didn't score its first field goal until Holsey had a layup at 8:29.
Maine kicks off a four-game home-stand beginning Thursday when they host Delaware for a 7 p.m. EST start. Grand Rapids next travels to Canton on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest.
