SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 13, 2012) - Construction of the San Antonio Scorpions FC's new multi-purpose sports, entertainment and special-events stadium - Toyota Field - has reached the two-thirds completion milestone, said Gordon Hartman today during a tour of the 8,000-seat facility for print and broadcast news media.

Hartman, CEO of The Gordon Hartman Family Foundation and head of Soccer for a Cause, said Toyota Field will be ready when the Scorpions kick off the 2013 North American Soccer League (NASL) season next April.

"Installation of seating in the west grandstand should be finished by year's end," he reported, "and the second and final phase of seating installation is due to be wrapped up Feb. 15. Grass will be planted on the playing field in December so grow-in can be completed by the middle of March."

Located adjacent to Morgan's Wonderland at Wurzbach Parkway and Thousand Oaks Drive in the former Longhorn Quarry, Toyota Field is another outgrowth of Soccer for a Cause, the Hartman-led effort to bring pro soccer to San Antonio and generate revenue to help those with special needs via non-profit Morgan's Wonderland.

The 25-acre, ultra-accessible theme park is the world's only park designed with special-needs individuals in mind and built for the enjoyment of everyone.

Hartman also announced that Scorpions 2013 season tickets are now on sale, and reservations are being taken for VIP suites.

Howard Cornfield, Scorpions president and general manager, said current season-ticket holders will be notified by letter and given first opportunity to reserve Toyota Field seats by Friday, Nov. 30.

Other fans interested in securing season tickets can call the Scorpions office at (210) 495-8686 to have their names placed on a priority list for the best remaining seats. Season-ticket information including views of the field from various areas of the stadium is available at www.SanAntonioScorpions.com.

"We couldn't have asked for a more exciting inaugural season for the Scorpions," Hartman said. "Our sincere congratulations go to Head Coach Tim Hankinson and his terrific team of players and coaches from all over the globe for capturing the regular-season NASL championship in their very first year of competition just one step removed from Major League Soccer."

"We were able to establish a Scorpions winning culture," Hankinson said. "It was a year of setting standards for future players and teams to live up to."

Hankinson said 2012 season highlights included:

2012 regular-season NASL champions.

League-leading regular-season attendance averaging 9,174 per game.

Three players (forward Pablo Campos, midfielder Walter Ramirez, defender Ryan Cochrane) earned spots on the NASL's Best XI.

Golden Ball Award/Most Valuable Player (Campos).

Golden Boot Award for top scorer (Campos).

Golden Glove Award for top goalkeeper (Daryl Sattler).

Most goals scored (46).

Fewest goals allowed (27).

He added that he and his staff are already plotting strategy for the new season that will include the addition of the famed New York Cosmos team to the NASL. A Scorpions player tryout was held this past Saturday, and another open tryout is scheduled for Dec. 8 at the South Texas Area Regional (STAR) Soccer Complex.

"We're working hard to field another winning team," Hankinson said, "and I'm pleased to announce we've already re-signed one of our versatile offensive threats, Hans Denissen. Competing at Toyota Field in front of our phenomenal fans will no doubt make us want to play even harder, rack up more wins and bring home a championship."

On Aug. 28, 2012, Toyota announced its presenting sponsorship of Toyota Field, which is capable of expansion in stages to 18,000 seats.

In addition to exciting Scorpions soccer, Toyota Field will host concerts, community activities and special events.

All net profits from Toyota Field, the Scorpions and nearby STAR Soccer have been earmarked to help those with special needs through programs and activities at non-profit Morgan's Wonderland.
