Stockton Wolves News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif---There is only one team preventing San Jose Wolves (6-1) from leading the American Indoor Football Association's (A.I.F.A.) Western Division.
That is the Wyoming Cavalry, the only blemish on the Wolves' otherwise perfect season.
However, before the Wolves attempt revenge on home soil, they will welcome the slumping Wenatchee Valley Venom (2-5) to the Cow Palace on Saturday night.
San Jose has seemed to rebound since falling in Casper last month. The Wolves used the bye week to rest up and have opened a four game home stand with consecutive 70 point outbursts in wins over the Venom and Ogden Knights.
A large part of the success is the Wolves' defense, which has scored eight touchdowns, six of which have been fumbles recovered for scores. In addition, the unit has allowed the third fewest points per game, just 32.4. Defensive end Leonard "Pac Man" Moore scored on two fumble recoveries while Tony Norman added a pick six in the Wolves 70-12 win over Ogden last week.
Quarterback Omar Jacobs has led the offense throwing for over 350 yards while completing 18 of 30 passes for seven touchdowns the last two weeks. Receiver A.J. Bennett has caught at least one touchdown pass in each of the Wolves' games, racking up 14 total on the season.
However, none of the offensive output would be possible without the protection from the offensive line. Taase Jennings, Ryan Beneby, and Antonio Searcy along with fullback Fitu Tuua have given Jacobs plenty of time, allowing a league low five sacks.
The Venom have been struggling since a season opening win over Yakima Valley. Wenatchee fell just two points shy of an overtime win against the Cavalry in week two but have not been as close in recent weeks. The Venom have lost five of their last six (the exception being a forfeit win over Ogden) and made a quarterback chance following a loss to the Wolves on May 1st.
A win over the Venom, in addition to a Cavalry loss, would give the Wolves the opportunity to pull even with Wyoming atop the Western Division with the rematch the following week at the Cow Palace.
Join the Wolfpack this Saturday in another must win against the visiting Wenatchee Valley Venom at 7:15 pm at the Cow Palace in Daly City by calling 1-877-9-WOLVES.
