Torres to Return as Raging Tide Manager

February 9, 2014 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) - Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide News Release

OLD ORCHARD BEACH - The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League has announced that Chris Torres will be returning as manager for the 2014 season.

This will be Torres' second season of managerial experience, all being with the Raging Tide.

A native of Vero Beach, Fla., Torres attended Cumberland University (Tenn.) from 2001-2005 after declining to sign out of high school with the Pittsburgh Pirates as a 32nd round selection. In 2005, Torres was a 32nd round draft pick again in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, but this time with the Detroit Tigers.

Torres played throughout the Tigers organization over the course of seven seasons, as well as with several independent teams. During his stint with the Nashua Pride, Torres helped capture the 2007 Can-Am League title.

During his final year of professional baseball in 2012, Torres hit .317 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs for the Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League.

"I'm very excited to be returning to the Tide and to Old Orchard Beach for the summer," said Torres. "We had a great season last year, resulting in our first playoff appearance. The goal this year is to build off of last season's success and use that momentum to make a deeper playoff run this year."

"We are extremely excited to have Chris back with us this year," said new Raging Tide General Manager Taylor Fisher. "Chris was a big part of last year's success, and we're excited to see what else he can bring to the table now that he has a year of managerial experience under his belt. All of the players learned a lot from Chris, and they were always eager to work with Chris and his coaching staff to help improve themselves."
