
Toros Fall to SAFC on the Road

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - After three games within seven days, Rio Grande Valley FC (0-3-2) fell 1-0 to San Antonio FC (2-0-1) on the road on Saturday night. RGV FC academy product Diego Rocha earned his first professional debut tonight with the Toros.
SAFC earned a lead after the Toros lost the ball in the midfield. Cristian Parano sent a long pass to Gonzalo Di Renzo on the right side. Di Renzo dribbled into the box, taking a shot that went off of the right foot of Paul Blanchette into the back post of the goal in the 60th minute, 1-0.
San Antonio kept possession throughout the first half. They first struck in the 13th minute but Robert Castellanos blocked their attempt. In the 21st minute Robert Coronado made a run and sent a cross to the right side to Taiberson Nunes. Nunes sent a cross inside the box but no one managed to reach it.
Two minutes later, Luis Solignac took a shot from the right side of the field but sent it out wide to the left. In the 43rd minute, Victor Giro took a right footed shot from outside the box but missed to the left side. Before going into the half, Kevin Rodriguez dribbled inside the box and shot from the right side of the box, but Dayne St. Clair saved the shot in the center of the goal.
SAFC continued to pressure in the second half. In the 58th minute, Christian Lucatero sent a shot to goal but was blocked out of play. In the 67th minute, RGV FC had another attempt to goal after Garrett McLaughlin sent a cross following a fast break. Kevin Rodriguez managed to head the ball from the center of the box but missed to the right side of the goal.
Parano kept being a threat as he sent a long shot from outside the box but Blanchette saved the attempt in the 69th minute. Two minutes later, he took a left footed shot from the left side of the box but Blanchette saved the attempt once again.
The Toros totaled nine shots, two on target while SAFC totaled 19 shots, four on target. Juan Carlos Obregon Jr. led the team with three shots, one on target with an 83.3% passing accuracy.
Both Isidro Martinez and Lucatero totaled four tackles each. Martinez also added five interceptions and two blocks. Castellanos cleared nine balls along with two interceptions and four blocks.
