Toros Fall to Rayados in Fourth of July Showdown

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC fell 5-1 to Club de Futbol Monterrey on a Fourth of July showdown where Rayados earned the Copa Independencia.

Maximiliano Meza grabbed the lead for Rayados in the 7th minute after he managed to send a shot from the left side of the goal to the right past Colin Miller, 1-0. In the 36th minute, Arturo Gonzalez sent a shot over Miller to the back of the net, 2-0. Five minutes later, Gonzalez grabbed a brace securing a 3-0 lead over the Toros.

In the second half during the 59th minute, Rayados went for a counterattack where Diego Rocha was able to block the first attempt that Monterrey had. The block allowed Edson Gutierrez to take advantage of the blocked ball to send it to the back of the net 4-0.

In the 87th minute, Carter Manley was able to put a goal away to be the lone scorer for the Toros, 4-1. During stoppage time, Jaziel Martinez sent a curled shot to the back post, 5-1.

In the 12th minute, Miller earned a save following a dangerous corner kick sent inside the box. In the 19th minute, Juan David Cabezas sent a shot to goal but Luis Cardenas managed to save the attempt for RGV.

The exhibition game allowed minutes for those RGV players who haven't had the opportunity to dress for the club. One of the players who saw minutes who made some key blocks was local player Rocha along with goalkeeper Miller.
