Toros Drop Both Games Of Sundays Doubleheader

The Tucson Toros wrapped up their series against the Victoria Seals with a pair of losses in Sunday's doubleheader. Tucson lost the first match 5-4 in a game that was resumed after being suspended on Saturday, before dropping the last game of the series 4-3.
The Seals walked off on the Toros in the first contest, with Brian Rios singling in Wilver Perez in the bottom of the 9th off of Tucson closer Emiliano Fruto. The loss squandered a huge game by LF Lino Garcia who went 3-for-4 with a walk, 3 RBI and a run scored on 2 singles, a double and a home run. The homer moved Garcia into a tie with SS Ryan Priddy for the team lead.
Tucson starter Vince Davis allowed 5 runs in a complete game loss in the second game, going the distance in the 7 inning affair. The Toros bats were held scoreless for the first 6 frames before mounting a 3-run rally in the top of the 7th inning. 2B Jose Valdez and pinch hitter Darren Blakely hit back-to-back solo jacks. Priddy drove in CF Josh Womack to bring the Toros within 2 runs, but that was as close as they would come. Womack finished the game 2-for-4 with his 8th double of the season.
1B Cristobal Santana had a single in both games to extended his hitting streak to a Toros season long 19 games, surpassing the previous mark of 18 formerly held by both Santana and OF Francisco Plasencia. If Santana reaches base with a hit in his next game he will tie the longest streak in the GBL this season set by Chico's Ismael Castro in June.
The Toros will continue their Canadian tour with a five game series against the Calgary Vipers beginning on Tuesday. The series includes a scheduled doubleheader on Wednesday. First pitch for Tuesday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tucson time.
