Tucson Toros News Release
TUCSON, AZ - The Tucson Toros opened up a three game series with the St. George Roadrunners with a 3-2 loss, Tuesday night at Hi Corbett field. With the loss the Toros' record stands at 11-6, but still maintain their hold on first place in the South Division.
The Toros outhit the Roadrunners 10-9, but a couple of late runs for St. George proved to be the difference in the ballgame.
Lorenzo Barcelo got the start for the home side but he didn't figure in the decision as Toby Nordman picked up the loss out of the pen. Barcelo went 6.1 innings deep where he gave up two runs on six hits and fanned five.
Nordman, (0-1) got out of the seventh quickly as he got a double play on the first pitch he threw. The rookie lefty gave up two hits in the eighth which led to the winning run, and his first loss of the season.
Skip Adams and Luis Apodaca each had a good night at the dish where they both went 2-3. Apodaca also hit a double while Adams drove in one of the Toros RBI.
Dustin Yount drove in the Toros other run as he hit a sacrifice fly in the first, and went 1-3 overall.
Game two of the three game set will take place tomorrow night at Hi Corbett field, with a 7:00 pm start. Gates open at 6:00 pm.
