Toronto Lynx News Release

In a match rescheduled from last night due to the effects of Tropical Storm Gaston, the Toronto Lynx completed their 2004 season tonight in Charleston with a match against the defending A-League champions. With both teams out of playoff contention, Lynx Head Coach, Duncan Wilde, used the opportunity to gage the development of several young players that have not seen much playing time this season. Brazilian, Marcio Domingos made his first appearance of the season, while Igor Prostran, Aaron Steele and Andres Arango also earned spots in the starting lineup. The lack of experience was exposed by the Battery in the first half as goals from Ted Chronopoulos and Gabe Valencia five minutes apart gave Charleston a 2-0 halftime lead. Wilde made several halftime changes that seemed to spark the Lynx as striker, Charles Gbeke, cut the deficit in half in the 52nd minute with a rocket that beat Charleston 'keeper Chris Doyle. Unfortunately for the Lynx, they would get no closer as the Battery regained their two goal advantage minutes later when Chronopolous' cross found Chris Goos who volleyed home the goal. Despite several quality chances in the game's final 15 minutes, the Lynx were unable to find the back of the net and end their eighth season with a 10-16-2 record. The defending A-League champion Battery finish at 7-15-6 in 8th place in the Eastern Conference, one spot behind the Lynx in the final A-League standings.
