Toronto Argonauts News Release
Toronto - During a private team ceremony hosted at the Atlantis Pavilions in Toronto, the 100th Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts were officially presented with their championship rings. Every part of the 100th Grey Cup championship ring has been designed to reflect the team that has been etched on the Grey Cup trophy itself.
Commented Argonauts Executive Chairman & CEO Chris Rudge, "The coaches and players delivered the victory on the field and tonight the thrill of winning is celebrated throughout our entire organization. I am very proud of every member of our team and this ring will serve as an everlasting symbol of our collective achievement. This storied franchise has won more titles than any other CFL club so it's most fitting that history will forever remember the Toronto Argonauts as winners of the historic 100th Grey Cup championship."
Players' rings are produced from 10kt white gold and weigh approximately 74 grams each. The top of the ring reads GREY CUP CHAMPIONS and the centre of the ring features the iconic Grey Cup trophy. The base of the trophy reads 100th, which represents the 100th Grey Cup in Canada. Placed in the centre of the trophy, on the top of the ring, is the Toronto Argonauts shield logo. The "A" is set with round diamonds and outlined with blue colour enamel. The letter "A" sits on a round shield set with 16 round diamonds representing Toronto's league-leading 16th Grey Cup championships. The top of the ring features 139 round brilliant cut diamonds, signifying each year of the team's existence.
The left shoulder of the ring features the recipient's last name and below the name is the year 2012, the words Grey Cup, the 100th Grey Cup game logo and the word Toronto. Below this is the recipient's jersey number or position. The right shoulder features the Toronto skyline, CFL logo, the Grey Cup, and Rogers Centre, the location where both the team's home games and the 100th Grey Cup Championship were hosted. The inside of the ring is incised with the date of the 100th Grey Cup championship: Nov. 25, 2012. Above the date is the final game score with corresponding team logos.
Commented Argonauts General Manager Jim Barker, "This ring is symbolic of the hard work put in by the players, coaches, staff and front office. It exemplifies the magnitude of winning the 100th Grey Cup championship at home and what we accomplished collectively last season. This ring stands apart from others both in its uniqueness and its representation of a once in a lifetime achievement."
Commented Argonauts Defensive Captain Jordan Younger, "It was a huge honour to be part of this team winning the 100th Grey Cup championship at home. It has been a privilege to be part of the committee that helped create the symbol of the legacy of this team's accomplishment. The whole experience of winning was a fairy tale and the anticipation of these rings has been an exciting reward for all of our hard work. We wanted a design that speaks to the history and the pride of this franchise in the CFL and Toronto, and I think we've succeeded."
The rings were produced by Jostens and designed by an internal committee consisting of Argonauts Chairman & CEO Chris Rudge and General Manager Jim Barker, as well as player representatives Jordan Younger and Jeff Keeping.
