Texas Tornado News Release
The Texas Tornado spent a lot of time on the ice in the final week of the 2011 calendar year, with three games in four days before ringing in the New Year on Sunday. After beating Corpus Christi 6-2 at Dr Pepper Arena on Wednesday, the Tornado traveled to Ector County Coliseum for two weekend games against the Odessa Jackalopes. Texas demolished Odessa by a score of 9-1 in Friday's contest, but was unable to replicate their performance the following night, losing 4-1 .
Wednesday, December 28th- Prince's hat trick leads Tornado to 6-2 rout
Neither the Texas Tornado nor Corpus Christi IceRays had played in the 11 days prior to Wednesday night's game, but Texas captain Jack Prince made up for lost time with a hat trick in the team's first game back from the holiday break, a 6-2 Tornado victory. Prince scored on power-play goals in both the first and third period, along with an even-strength marker in the final minute of play. Jordan Greenberg chipped in with a goal and three assists, while Joakim Jutras made 18 of 20 stops in the Tornado victory.
Friday, December 30th - Two goals from Prince, Reuschlein help Tornado to 9-1 blowout
It was all Texas Tornado against the Odessa Jackalopes on Friday, scoring seven straight goals to close out a 9-1 rout at Ector County Coliseum. Joakim Jutras stopped 29 of 30 shots in the win, as the rookie goaltender moved to 14-2-3 on the season. Jack Prince and CJ Reuschlein each had two goals, while newcomer Alex Temby chipped in with a goal and two assists. Temby scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal with a wrist shot early in the first period while other Tornado goal-scorers included Conner Burton, Marc Biggs, Jordan Lovick, and Tyler Rostenkowski.
Saturday, December 31th- Final game of 2011 ends in 4-1 Tornado loss
After a nine-goal output against the Odessa Jackalopes on Friday night, the Tornado were stymied by Odessa goaltender Connor Hellebuyck on Saturday, who stopped 42 of 43 shots in dispatching Texas by a score of 4-1. Reid Mimmack saw just 20 shots on goal, but dropped to 8-4-3 on the season. The Tornado scored four goals in the first period on Friday night, but Hellebuyck-- who was pulled early in the second the night before-- was on his gam - e 24 hours later. Mychal Monteith scored the lone Tornado goal in the third period.
Upcoming Games and Promotions
The Tornado will celebrate the start of 2012 with four straight home games, beginning this Thursday and Friday at Dr Pepper Arena. After playing host to Corpus Christi for the fourth straight time on January 5th, the Odessa Jackalopes will be back in Frisco for a game on January 6th. The following week, Wichita Falls will be in town for a game on January 13th followed by the Jackalopes returning again on January 14th. That weekend will also be Children's Medical Center Winterfest presented by Jersey Mike's. The Tornado will be sporting retro jerseys which will be auctioned off following Saturday night's game. A portion of those proceeds will be donated to Children's Medical Center.
