Stars take Round 3 Harris scores twice in 4-3 victory

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Traverse City North Stars got the new year off on the right foot on Sunday, claiming the finale of a three-game series, 4-3, with the Jamestown Ironmen after dropping the first two.

Nathan Harris scored a pair of goals and Kyle Loridon delivered the unassisted game-winner with 3:51 to play at Jamestown Savings Bank Arena to power the visitors, who battled back from an early 2-0 deficit.

Harris (Fowlerville, MI/Lansing Capitals U18) halved the Stars' deficit 8:03 into the second period, and Sean Murphy (Cary, NC/Tri-City USHL) levied the equalizer a little more than two minutes later as Traverse City outshot the hosts 16-6 in the middle stanza. Jamestown pulled ahead seven minutes into the third, but Traverse City answered with Harris' second tally at 9:05, and Loridon (Howell, MI/Lansing Capitals U18) slipped home the clincher at 16:09.

Harris' first goal was of the unassisted variety, while Eric Rivard (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars NAHL) and captain Jared Van Wormer (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars NAHL) set up the second. Alexander Taulien (Crystal Lake, IL/TC North Stars NAHL) assisted on Murphy's 10th of the season.

Zach Nagelvoort (Holland, MI/Kalamazoo NAHL) earned his first victory in a Stars sweater, stopping 20 shots in 23 tries. He is now 3-3-1 on the year, and 1-2-1 since being acquired from division rival Kalamazoo.

The North Stars (15-9-4) climbed into a third-place tie with idle Michigan in the NAHL North Division standings, three points behind second-place Kalamazoo and 14 behind first-place Port Huron. Traverse City has played three fewer games than Kalamazoo and a full eight fewer than Port Huron. The Stars visit Michigan next weekend for a pair of games Friday and Saturday before a Sunday matinee at Port Huron.

Traverse City will play the next four games on the road before returning to Centre ICE Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 17 for the 'Sticks and Steaks' event against Kalamazoo. The event, part of The Fox-FM and You-FM's Chef Tours, features a gourmet pregame dinner in the Centre ICE community room prepared by Executive Chef Eric Nittolo of The Boathouse restaurant, with wine pairings by Bowers Harbor Vineyards. The dinner menu consists of shrimp cocktail, wedge salad with house-cured bacon and loaded bleu cheese dressing, and Prime rib with roasted garlic potato puree. A dessert of tiramisu truffle will be served in the Scouts' Lounge during the first intermission. To register for the dinner, visit 943thefoxfm.com or 1067youfm.com.
