Tornado Hope to hand the IceDogs a "Bone" this Weekend

It is a "Bone-a-fide" hockey weekend as the Texas Tornado prepare for yet another big series, this time against the NAHL-leading Bozeman IceDogs on Saturday, March 4th at 7:30pm, and Sunday, March 5th at 6:00pm at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco. For this weekend's games, the Texas Tornado has teamed up with 93.3 FM The Bone for the special 93.3 FM The Bone Tornado Ticket Offer... For only $9.33, fans get a premium ticket, a hot dog, and a Dr Pepper to either the March 4th or March 5th games this weekend! That's a ticket, food, and a drink for only $9.33! To With a 41-5-1 record, which is the best in the NAHL, the IceDogs have become the 14th team since the NAHL moved its regular season to at least a 56-game regular season schedule back in the 1997-98 season, to have won 40 or more games in a season. This weekend will be a true clash of the titans. The IceDogs sport the best road record in the league at an incredible 21-1-0 away from home. However, the Tornado remain statistically the best home team in the NAHL with a 19-3-1 record. Both teams have very good records outside their division with the IceDogs going 17-3-0 and the Tornado going 15-2-1. However, the biggest advantage may lie with the Tornado because of their head-to-head victories in Bozeman earlier this season, as they swept the IceDogs on September 16-17, by scores of 4-1 and 5-2. Never the less, the question will be decided on the ice as the Texas Tornado will host the Bozeman IceDogs for two games . The weekend will provide a number of subplots that will make any hockey fan salivate. First, the Texas Tornado will be closing in on another 40-win season. In each of their previous six seasons, the Tornado has won at least 40 or more games, which is an ongoing NAHL record. Second, is the NAHL record for wins in a season. The record is currently held by the 2003-04 Texas Tornado with 48 regular season wins in 56 regular season games played. Bozeman has a good shot at the record because this season the NAHL increased the number of regular season games from 56 to 58. Both games can be watched and heard LIVE via the Tornado Hockey Network at www.tornadohockey.com

Tornado Split in Traverse City Easier Said than Done

The Tornado got all they could handle on the road this past weekend in Traverse City against the 4th place North Stars from the NAHL North Division. On Friday night, it was a 1st and 3rd period to forget for the Texas Tornado in Traverse City as they fell to the North Stars, 7-4. Even though the final two goals were of the empty-net variety, the seven goals against marked a season-high for the Tornado. The game began with three consecutive North Stars goals on 9 shots that chased Tornado starting goaltender #20 Matt DiGirolamo from the net in favor of #33 Troy Redmann. That seemed to jump start the Tornado, as #19 Andrew Harrison converted on a nice pass from #9 Justin King to make it 3-1. The 2nd period was all Tornado, as they scored three goals to take a 4-3 lead. First, #28 Karl Sellan scored his 32nd goal of the year with assists from Harrison and #5 Brett Blatchford. The Sellan, this time shorthanded tied the score at 3-3 with an assist from #26 Derek Danowski. The Tornado would take a 4-3 lead, as Blatchford fired home a power play goal with an assist from Sellan and #6 Devrin Stonehouse. However, a fired up North Stars team came out firing in the 3rd period, scoring only :20 seconds in, to tie the game at 4-4. Then, they took the lead halfway through and never looked back. The Tornado pulled Redmann with a minute and a half remaining, but Texas could get nothing started with the extra attacker as Traverse City scored two shorthanded goals for a 7-4 win.

On Saturday, the Tornado once again found themselves down in the 3rd period, but used two late goals to comeback to tie Traverse City in the final seconds of regulation, and ultimately win 3-2 in a shootout. Traverse city scored once in the 1st period and once in the 2nd period. On the night the Tornado had just two power plays to Traverse City's 10. Despite the margin, the Tornado mounted a 3rd period comeback behind a goal from Michigan native #26 Derek Danowski, who scored to make it 2-1 with assists from #3 Lyon Messier and #28 Karl Sellan. The with goaltender #33 Troy Redmann out of the net for an extra attacker with hardly any time left, #11 Ryan Fuller tied the game at 2-2 with :09 seconds remaining with an assist from Sellan. After a scoreless overtime, which included yet another North Stars power play, Sellan and Danowski gave the Tornado an edge in the shootout by scoring first. Traverse City answered back on their 3rd shooter, but Tornado forward #14 Tom Brooks completed the comeback with the shootout winner.
