TORNADO SWEEP JR. BLUES DURING HOME OPENING WEEKEND

The Back-to-Back National Champion Texas Tornado continued their winning ways this past weekend at home by sweeping the Springfield Jr. Blues to remain undefeated for the 2005-06 season with a record of 4-0-0. The last time the Texas Tornado lost a game, pre-season or otherwise, was the first game of the round-robin portion of the National Championships back on April 26, 2005 against the Fargo-Moorhead Jets. Friday night, the Texas Tornado controlled the game from start to finish against the Springfield Jr. Blues to win 5-1, and take over lone possession of 1st place in the NAHL South Division. #19 Andrew Harrison started the scoring in the first period, when he received a pass from #26 Derek Danowski, and one-timed it past the Jr. Blues goaltender for a 1-0 lead. #9 Justin King also assisted on the play. Early in the 2nd period Danowski made it 2-0 on an unassisted goal, as he banked the puck off the Jr. Blues netminder from behind the net. King made it 3-0 as he converted on a power play goal with some nice passing and hard work down low by linemates #18 Tom Train and #28 Karl Sellan. The Jr. Blues would get on the board on a 5 on 3 power play, but Tornado goaltender #20 Matt DiGirolamo made it hold in his first ever junior A game. Harrison scored his 2nd goal of the game to give the Tornado a 4-1 late in the 2nd period, when he converted on a rebound blast from defenseman #3 Lyon Messier, with King adding another assist. The 3rd period saw only one goal as Danowski added his 2nd of the game on the power play on a nice point pass from #5 Brett Blatchford. Saturday night, the Jr. Blues stormed out to a 2-0 lead after the 1st period, but fortunately the Tornado scored four unanswered goals Saturday night to win 4-2 and complete the weekend sweep of the Springfield Jr. Blues. Tornado forward #11 Ryan Fuller scored the last two goals of the game. #9 Justin King had the first goal and an assist, and #28 Karl Sellan had a goal. Tornado goaltender #33 Troy Redmann moved his record to a perfect 3-0-0 stopping 18 of 20 Jr. Blues shots.
