Texas Tornado News Release
Two goals each from Rock Einersen and Nate Sliwinski, three assists from Jack Prince and an 18-save shutout from goaltender Jimmy Kruger gave the Tornado a 5-0 win over Corpus Christi in Frisco on Saturday night, snapping the three game Tornado losing streak and increasing their South Division lead to nine points. The same two teams will battle again tomorrow at the Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco at 5pm. Tickets for the game are still available by calling 972-335-9800 or online at www.tornadohockey.com
The Tornado started the game on a mission and took it to the IceRays from the opening face-off. Just over a minute into the game a pass from behind the net by David Rigatti in front to Rock Einersen netted the game's first goal as Einersen one-timed a blast past IceRays goaltender Pheonix Copley for a 1-0 Tornado lead. The rest of the period was both goaltenders, Copley for Corpus Christi and Jimmy Kruger for the Tornado, holding the fort as the Tornado outshot the âRays 11-7 in period one.
2nd periods have been tough for the Tornado lately, but on this night, the Tornado would dominate and break the game wide open. The Tornado started the period off quickly again as a beautiful pass from Ralfs Freibergs found a wide open J.D. Howard who hammered home is 11th of the season for a 2-0 Tornado lead. The Tornado would make it 3-0 as Nate Sliwinski found himself behind the Corpus Christi defense courtesy of a bounce pass by Howard and Sliwinski tucked one between the legs of Copley on the breakaway. Just about a minute later, the Tornado would make it 4-0 as Rock Einersen fired home a drive for his 2nd goal of the night with another assist to Jack Prince. Seconds later, Nate Sliwinski would add another goal, this time on the power play, for his second of the night as he got loose on a breakaway and slid a backhand underneath the pads of Copley for a 5-0 Tornado lead. Kruger was rarely tested by the âRays in the period, as the Tornado outshot Corpus Christi 18-3 in the period.
Despite the five goal lead, the Tornado managed to outshoot the âRays 11-8 in the 3rd period, but neither team was able to find the back of the net again. Jimmy Kruger stopped all 18 shots for his second shutout of the season, as the Tornado snapped their three game slide with a dominating 5-0 win.
