Texas Tornado News Release
The Texas Tornado have acquired goaltender Frederick Leisner from the Aberdeen Wings in exchange for forward C.J. Reuschlein and goaltender Reid Mimmack. Mimmack had shared time with Joakim Jutras this season, posting a 9-4-3 record, 2.49 GAA and .904 SV% in 19 games this season. Reuschlein, meanwhile, has collected 12 goals and 16 assists in 38 games played in his rookie NAHL campaign.
"This was a very difficult decision, first and foremost because we're giving up a couple of great kids," Tornado head coach and general manager Tony Curtale said. "We think a ton of both Reid and C.J., but in order to put ourselves in a position to win a championship this season, we felt we needed to upgrade in goal."
Leisner's record this season is 11-11-5 with two shutouts, a GAA of 2.54 and a .930 SV%. He is fifth in the NAHL in overall saves made and tied for fourth in save percentage.
"We're very excited to get a guy in Leisner who's from Garland in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area. More importantly, we feel that he is one of the top goaltenders in the league."
Aberdeen beat the Tornado earlier this season when the two teams met in Blaine, Minn. at the Combat Hockey/NAHL Showcase Tournament back in September. Leisner made 32 out of 34 saves in a 3-2 overtime victory for the Wings.
His first chance in net for the Tornado could come this Friday, when Texas hosts the Fresno Monsters for a 7:30 faceoff at Dr Pepper Arena.
