Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - Sioux Falls Canaries outfielder Beau Torbert was named the American Association Batter of the Week for the final week of the 2009 season. In the final seven games of the 2009 season, Beau hit .400 (12-for-30) with three home runs, nine RBI, and seven runs scored.
"Beau did a terrific job for us this season," said Canaries Manager Steve Shirley. "He had to battle through some adversity and come back from a tough injury, but Beau worked hard every day so that he could return to full-strength and contribute on a level that very few players can."
Beau, named the American Association Player of the Year in 2008, finished the season with a .346 batting average, 12 home runs, and 60 RBI. Only 2009 Player of the Year Greg Porter of the Wichita Wingnuts and Shreveport-Bossier Captains infielder Christopher Garcia finished the 2009 season with better American Association batting averages than Torbert.
