Top College Programs Providing Players to the WCL

PORTLAND, OREGON - March 14, 2012 - Players from the top college programs in North America will be playing this summer in the West Coast League. "We're totally impressed with the support our league is receiving from coaches," said WCL president Ken Wilson. "The level of talent in the West Coast League gets better each season."

Texas, Cal State Fullerton, Oklahoma, Cal Poly, Oregon, Hawaii, Gonzaga, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Cornell, Oregon State, Santa Clara, UCLA, St. Marys, Kansas, Washington, UC Riverside, Arizona, Murray State, Stanford, UC Irvine, San Francisco, Washington State, Portland, San Jose State, Utah, San Diego, North Dakota State, Louisiana Tech, UC Santa Barbara, Sam Houston State, British Columbia, Sacramento State, Lewis-Clark State, Youngstown State, and Seattle are among the schools providing players to the West Coast League for the 2012 season.

A number of top players coming right out of high school are slated to play in the WCL this season, with nine of the Top 100 high school players eligible for the 2012 Major League Baseball June Draft signed to play.

Since starting play in 2005, the WCL has become The Diamond Standard of summer collegiate wood-bat baseball. Jacoby Ellsbury (Boston), Eric Sogard (Oakland), Bud Norris (Houston), Nyjer Morgan (Milwaukee), Marc Rzepczynski (St. Louis), Brent Morel (Chicago White Sox), and Tommy Hanson (Atlanta) are among the major leaguers who played for West Coast League teams.

The 2012 West Coast League season opens June 1st. Each team will play 54-games and the 2012 All-Star Game will be played July 24th at Borleske Stadium in Walla Walla.

The West Coast League is The Diamond Standard of summer wood-bat collegiate baseball. Based in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, the league is a developing ground for aspiring pros and provides an affordable, wholesome, family-oriented entertainment alternative for its member communities. The nine-team league extends from Kelowna, British Columbia to Klamath Falls, Oregon.
