Atlanta Silverbacks News Release
Atlanta, Ga. (Sept. 20, 2014) - The Atlanta Silverbacks have some ground to make up to jump back in the race for The Championship, the league's four-team postseason. And the good thing is, the team's next two games are at home, starting Saturday, September 20 against the Ottawa Fury (7:30 p.m.).
Atlanta currently sits six points behind the fourth and final postseason berth. Ottawa is also within reach at only eight points back. Add it up, and both teams need the win Saturday with only seven games remaining afterwards.
Ottawa comes in hot, having taken results in 4 of their last 5 games (2-2-1 WTL). Last week they defeated the Tampa Bay Rowdies in Florida.
The Silverbacks' last five matches were not as positive, with a win and draw amidst three defeats - with four of the games on the road. Last week they nearly pulled off a great comeback in NY only to lose with a late goal.
"They're coming off a win, and that's always a great motivator and confidence builder," Silverbacks coach Jason Smith said of the Fury. "So they're going to come here looking for a win. We're coming off a loss, but we felt like we did pretty well in the second half to get back in it, and showed a lot of character. I believe right now our morale is high and we're looking forward to the match."
The Silverbacks this week will have four players available who missed last week's match, though team captain Mike Randolph is out after sustaining a high ankle sprain.
