Evansville BlueCats News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats have signed the league's best kicker. Ton-Ton Luzayadio has re-signed and will return to Evansville for the 2007 indoor football season. Widely regarded as one of the elite kickers in the league, Ton-Ton should once again make a big impact on the BlueCats offense and special teams.
Evansville BlueCats Head Coach John Hart said, "Ton-Ton is a spectacular talent. He's great all around, on field goals, on kickoffs, and he can make kicks in the clutch. I feel like his talents give us an advantage on special teams and we're thrilled to have him back for next season."
Last season with BlueCats, Luzayadio (pronounced: Lew-ZAH-dee-oh) led the league with 43 field goals on the season. He destroyed the BlueCats record book, shattering all of the single game and single season kicking records that the BlueCats have recorded. He also broke the team single season scoring record as well as several career kicking records.
His single season team records include most field goals made (43), field goal attempts (97), and field goal percentage (44.3%) and he owns the single season mark for extra points made, attempted, and percentage. Luzayadio also broke the team record for most points scored in a single season points by kicking his way 189 last year. Not only was 189 points a team record, but 189 points also led the league last year and was the second greatest single season point total in UIF history, trailing only former UIF MVP, Sioux City running back Fred Jackson.
Other team records include most field goals in a single game (6) and longest field goal in team history (52 yards).
After arriving in Evansville a year ago, it took Ton-Ton only 4 games to break the BlueCats single season field goals record, and he broke the career field goal mark in just 5 games. He already sits in 3rd place on the all-time BlueCats points scored list.
In 2005, Ton-Ton played for the Black Hills Red Dogs in the UIF and finished the season second on his team in scoring with 94 points. He converted 40 of his 46 extra point attempts on the season (87%) making him the most accurate PAT kicker in the league for that season among all kickers with at least as many PAT attempts.
Luzayadio played for the Arkansas Twisters in the af2 during 2004, and played semi-pro football from 2001-2003 in the Colorado Football Conference. He earned the CFC Kicker of the Year Award in each of his 3 seasons and connected on field attempts from 55 and 53 yards while kicking for the Northern Colorado Wolfpack in 2003.
In college he played for Colorado State during the 2000 season after transferring from Western State in Gunnison, Colorado where he played in 1997.
Ton-Ton was a multi-sport athlete in high school, earning a spot on the All-State team in football, track, and soccer while attending Wheat Ridge High School in Colorado. The football team won the state championship during his sophomore and senior seasons (1994, 1996) and he still holds the school record for most extra points in a season with 51 in 1996.
