Rome, GA - On Monday, January 25, 2010, from 5pm-7pm at the Forum in downtown Rome, the Rome Braves will host the Eighth Annual Hot Stove Gathering at State Mutual Stadium.  Proceeds from the event will benefit Cancer Navigators in memory of Jim "Beach" Beauchamp.  The purpose of Cancer Navigators is to bring the community together to take care of all who are touched by the life-changing process of dealing with cancer.  This includes patients, families, caregivers, and friends as well as doctors, nurses, and support staff.  Cancer Navigators have Nurse, Service, and Education programs to assist anyone who seeks knowledge about cancer or needs to reclaim his or her life before, during and after treatments.   This year's event will feature current Atlanta Brave and former Rome Brave Tommy Hanson. The 2010 Rome Braves field staff will be on hand along with Atlanta Braves personnel and other special guests.  Hanson debuted for the Atlanta Braves in 2009 and posted a 2.89 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 21 games over the course of his rookie season.  In 2007 Hanson was named to the South Atlantic League All-Star team and was named the Pitcher of the Year for Rome by the Atlanta Braves organization while striking out an organization high 154 batters in 133.0 innings pitched between Rome and Myrtle Beach.  In 2008, Hanson was awarded the Phil Niekro Award which recognizes the top pitcher in the Braves' system.   "We're thrilled to have Tommy come back to Rome and visit with our fans and lend his support to this worthwhile cause," said Rome Braves General Manager Michael Dunn.  "Jim Beauchamp will always hold a special place in our hearts as a key member of the Atlanta Braves family.  The Hot Stove benefits Cancer Navigators in Beach's memory." Cancer Navigators executive director Phillip Edge said, "We are a community -based organization working to help those affected by cancer, their families and caregivers, walk through this journey. We are excited about this Hot-Stove event and look forward to partnering with this community."

This year's event will once again feature a silent auction.  Items have been donated from Major and Minor League teams across the continent, as well as an autograph session, questions & answers with the special guests, and food & drinks. Tickets for this event are available at the ticket department at State Mutual Stadium, online at www.romebraves.com, through Cancer Navigators, and at the Forum box office.  Tickets are $30 per person and $15 per child (12 & under).  Tickets are limited.  For more information or to purchase tickets contact the Rome Braves at (706) 378-5144.
