JOHNSTOWN - The Johnstown Tomahawks erased a two-goal deficit in the second period en route to a 3-2 shootout victory over the New Jersey Titans Saturday night at the War Memorial during Jeremy Roenick Day in Hockeyville, USA.
New Jersey struck early on a Raymond Brice goal at 2:28 of the first period.
The Titans would follow up the Brice goal with a power play goal later in the first from Slovakian forward Adam Hascic on the power play.
Down 2-0 in the second the Tomahawks ramped up their forecheck and their persistence paid off when Tommy Horn scored his second goal in as many nights to cut the deficit to one goal.
Drew Doyon was credited with the lone helper on Horn's seventh of the campaign.
Johnstown defenseman Niko Coffman knotted the game at 2 when his low wrist shot bounced over the outstretched pad of Titans goalie Harrison Feeney. Coffman's third goal of the season was assisted by Doyon and Luke Lynch.
The Tomahawks would gave an opportunity to end the game in regulation when Titans forward and assistant captain Andrew Durham took a late roughing penalty, but the Tomahawks did not capitalize and the game went into overtime.
The extra five minutes of action solved nothing so both teams moved on to the shootout round.
New Jersey got on the board first when Keegan Miller found the back of the net.
Tomahawks goalie Andrew Lindgren stood tall the rest of the shootout as Coffman and Adam Pilewicz netted two goals to give Johnstown its fourth consecutive victory.
Lindgren halted 23 New Jersey shots for his second victory as a Tomahawk. Feeney stopped 26 shots from Johnstown in the loss.
Johnstown finishes its 11-game homestand Sunday Dec 6at 3:00 p.m. at the War Memorial. The Tomahawks hold the second annual Undies Sunday promotion as well host Santa Claus. For more information, call 814-536-GOAL.
