Johnstown Tomahawks News Release
The Johnstown Tomahawks defeated the Northeast Generals Saturday night, getting the weekend sweep for the New Year Showdown at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA.
Saturday night's game started in similar fashion as Friday's as David Andreychuk netted two goals in the 1st period for the Generals, making it 2-0.
The Generals extended their lead early in the 2nd period, with Joe Schubert making it 3-0 4:09 in. Jake Black got the Tomahawks on the board with a power play goal 9:17 into the period, followed by Stephen Kyrkostas making it a one-goal game with 6 minutes remaining in the 2nd, sending the game into the 3rd with the Generals up on the Tomahawks 3-2.
Frank Jenkins showed up for the Tomahawks in the 3rd period, getting the game-tying goal on the power play. Jenkins sent the game to overtime then for the Tomahawks, followed by a shootout where the Tomahawks won the game and earned the New Years weekend sweep against the Generals.
The Tomahawks have a very quick turnaround as they face off against the Jamestown Rebels for a Sunday afternoon game on the road in New York.
