Tomahawks Earn 3-1 New Year's Eve Win

The Johnstown Tomahawks picked up a 3-1 win over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in front of 3,250 on New Year's Eve at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena. The Tomahawks improve their record to 2-0-1 in New Year's Eve games.

After a scoreless first period, Andrew Romano connected on a pass to a wide open Luke Lynch, who fired a shot past the glove of Kevin Aldridge at 5:51. Jake Houston also added an assist on the ninth goal of the season for Lynch.

Fairbanks tied the game at one, as Ethan Somoza took advantage of a two-on-one pass from Tyler Tomberlin 11:37 into the third period.

Just 25 seconds later, Trevor Recktenwald regained the lead, scoring off an Alex Jaeckle pass from behind the net. Recktenwald now has six points in his last five games.

Cam Bleck sealed the deal for the Tomahawks with an empty net goal from inside the red line with four seconds remaining.

Ryan Bednard rebounded from last night's loss, stopping 29 of 30 shots in the win. Kevin Aldridge suffered the loss, allowing two goals on 30 shots. The Tomahawks went 0-for-6 on the power play, but continued their success on the penalty kill, going 4-for-4.

The Tomahawks welcome the Kenai River Brown Bears to the War Memorial this Friday and Saturday. Face-off is set for 7 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, visit www.johnstowntomahawks.com or call 814-536-GOAL.
