
Tomahawks Capture Close 3-2 Win over Knights

JOHNSTOWN - The Johnstown Tomahawks used two third period goals and 54 shots on goal to defeat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights 3-2 Friday afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre.
The Knights cracked an early scoreless tie with a goal from Jeffrey Bertrand.
Johnstown threw 16 shots on goal against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goalie Zach Stejskal as the Knights carried a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
In the second period, the Tomahawks tied the game at the 17:04 mark of the stanza with a goal from Mitchell Hale. Pavel Kharin and Anthony Mastromonica assisted on the goal.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton regained the lead with a goal from Tyler Nielsen early in the third period.
Forward Chad Merrell beat Stejskal to knot the score for the Tomahawks at 2-2.
Late in the third period, the Knights took a penalty and gave Johnstown the power play.
Johnstown would cash in with a goal from Cameron Hebert. Hunter Toale and Oliver Benwell assisted on the goal to set the final at 3-2.
Phipps stopped 16 shots en route to his first win of the season. Stejskal in the loss stopped 51 Tomahawks shots on goal.
Both teams lock up Saturday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. faceoff.
