Butler BlueSox News Release

Butler, PA - March 18, 2013 - As with their MAC counterparts from Kent State, the BlueSox are looking for good things from a University of Toledo trio that includes third baseman Anthony Smith and relievers Adam Tyson and John Martillotta.

Anthony Smith lettered all four seasons of his high school baseball career. He finished his senior year by helping his team to the state semi-finals with a ridiculous .625 OBP.

"Anthony has a good track throughout his high school days and it has continued at Toledo," said BlueSox' manager Anthony Rebyanski.

Ranked as the 43rd prospect in Ohio by The Buckeye Scout, Smith joined the University of Toledo in 2012 where he split time between third base and the outfield. He hit for a .332 OBP with multiple hits in 14 games and six multi-RBI games. "He is a versatile position player that we hope can fill in the middle of our lineup and be an impact guy for us in 2013," said Rebyanski.

Smith is hitting .317 through 16 games so far this spring, with 19 hits, eight runs, and nine RBIs.

Adam Tyson came out of the bullpen 24 times in 2011, which ranked seventh in the MAC and second on the University of Toledo staff in appearances. An arm injury prevented Tyson from pitching last spring, but he is back on the mound this spring.

"Adam was originally slated to join us in 2012, but his unfortunate injury didn't allow that to happen. He was coming off a very good 2011 season and we had high hopes for him last year," said Rebyanski.

In high school, Tyson lettered multiple times in baseball, football, and basketball. He concluded his pitching career at Elmwood High by going 9-0 with a 1.24 ERA as a senior. The performance earned him first-team all-league and first-team all-county accolades.

"Adam has a power type arm that will play a big role in our success on the mound," said Rebyanski. "He is off to a very good start in 2013 and we are excited to have had him re-sign with us." Tyson leads the University of Toledo's staff with a 0.75 ERA over his first five appearances in 2013. He has struck out 13 and walked just four hitters.

Freshman at Toledo, John Martillotta also lettered in three sports in high school, earning all-conference honors in baseball three times. Last year, as a senior he struck out 85 hitters over 53 innings, earning a 0.80 ERA.

"John has not seen any action yet this spring," said Rebyanski, "but he had an excellent senior year in high school and has had success on the mound. This spring and summer will be a good test for him and I'm sure he is up for the test."

Toledo recently split four contests at Pitt's Panther Classic tournament, falling twice to Pitt themselves who are 12-6 so far this season.

"Toledo is a well-organized and ran program in the MAC conference. Coach Mee has highly recommended all three of these players to us and we look forward to working with them this summer and continuing to follow their success this spring," said Rebyanski.
