Title Defense Starts Tonight

The reigning 2008 Sussex Skyhawks Can-Am League Champions start their 2009 season on the road tonight at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, led by returning 2008 Manager of the year Hal Lanier. First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
Kyle Ruwe will be the starting pitcher for the first of a 4-game series before returning to Augusta for the Monday, June 1 home opener where the Skyhawks will host the Worcester Tornadoes at 7:05pm. Ruwe started 18 games for the Hawks last season, posting a 12-5 record with 72 strikeouts to only 20 walks in 129 innings of work with a 4.67 ERA. Ruwe will take on Rox RHP Wayne Lundgren, with a 2008 record of 11-3 and 3.28 ERA. The pitching rotation for the series also includes two returning pitchers, Roger Lincoln and Justin Knoff, as well as new pitcher TJ Stanton. Lincoln appeared in 10 games last season, with an ERA of 4.67. Knoff compiled a 3-1 record with a 3.74 E.R.A., 33 strikeouts and an opposing batting average of .257 in 53 innings on the hill. Before joining the Skyhawks this season, Stanton pitched for Quebec in 2008 and 2007. During his 2008 run with Quebec, Stanton had ERA of 3.90.
The Skyhawks will host their first home game of the season on Monday, June 1 at 7:05pm. Monday's opener versus the Worcester Tornadoes is the first of a 3 game series. Opening Night will feature High School Night at the stadium brought to you by Sussex County Community College. The college has bought tickets for all Sussex County Seniors. Tickets can be obtained through the college. Promotions for Monday also include limited edition championship posters for the 1000 fans. Tuesday, June 2nd's game at 7:05pm will include a magnetic schedule giveaway for the first 500 fans as well as 2 for Tuesday-2 tickets, 2 hot dogs, 2 chips, and 2 sodas for $22. Wednesday, June 3 is School Day (special 10:05am start time).
