Orlando Titans News Release

Philadelphia, Penn. -- The New York Titans of the National Lacrosse League lost 16-12 to the undefeated Philadelphia Wings in a tough battle at the Wachovia Center Friday night, brining their record to 4-5.

The first quarter was low on scoring, but high on good defense from both teams. Philadelphia notched one goal two minutes into the game, but the Titans were able to hold them scoreless for the remainder of the quarter. The Titans went scoreless in the first.

Philadelphia scored five seconds into the second quarter, but physical play soon got them into trouble and with three players serving time in the penalty box, Titans Captain Casey Powell was able to score the first goal of the night for the Titans with a penalty shot. Titans forwards Pat Maddalena and Mike McLellan followed with a power play goal apiece, giving the Titans their first lead of the night at 3-2.

The Wings and the Titans each exchanged goals before Philadelphia took the lead when Wings forward John Christmas netted a goal 10:54 minutes into the quarter. Two more Wings scored goals before the half expired and Philadelphia headed into the tunnel with a 6-4 lead.

Titans forward Brendan Mundorf scored the first goal of the second half, bringing the score to 6-5. Wings forwards Jake Bergey and Athan Ianucci scored back-to-back goals, giving the Wings a three goal lead over the Titans.

But New York fought back and went on a run with Casey Powell, Jordan Hall and Mike McLellan scored consecutive goals to tie the game at 8-8.

Philadelphia scored two answered goals and entered the fourth quarter with a 10-8 lead over the Titans.

Titans forward Pat Maddalena got a quick goal 10 seconds into the final quarter, but the Wings went on a four-goal run, to bring their lead to 14-9 with just over 10 minutes left in regulation.

Both teams exchanged goals two goals a piece, bringing the score to 16-11.

The Titans tried to chip away at the Wings lead with a goal scored by Titans forward Jeff Ratcliffe off a sweet behind the back pass from Casey Powell, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Eastern Conference leader and the Wings notched another win after a valiant effort by the Titans.

Pat Maddalena was the Titans leader in points with seven off of three goals and four assists. Both Maddalena and Mike McLellan scored hat tricks in the loss. Athan Ianucci of the Wings was the game's leader in points with eight off of six goals and two assists.

Titans goalie Matt Vinc had 44 saves on 60 shots.

The Titans have a bye week next week but continue their road trip against the Toronto Rock on Friday, March 14th at 7:30pm at the Air Canada Centre. They play their next home game on Saturday, March 22 at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ against the Philadelphia Wings at 7:30pm.
