CEDAR RAPIDS, IA : The Cedar Rapids Titans (1-0) will host the Sioux Falls Storm (1-0) Saturday, March 7 in a rematch of the 2014 IFL United Conference Championship game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 P.M on Mediacom Field at the U.S Cellular Center.
The Titans are 2-3 all-time in the regular season against the four-time defending IFL champion Storm and have the highest winning percentage against Sioux Falls of any team in the IFL. The Titans defeated the Storm at home in the final game of the regular season last season, 49-37, giving the Storm their only loss of the season.
The Titans come into the game having won 11 consecutive home games after spoiling the IFL debut of the Iowa Barnstormers last week 51-20. The Titans shut down the Iowa offense attack allowing them to only get in the endzone twice. The Titans defense sacked the Iowa quarterbacks eight times and forced three interceptions.
On offense this week, the Titans will look to build off their success vs. Iowa. QB Sam Durley had a productive game last week throwing for 141 yards and two touchdowns. WR Bryan Pray led all the Titans receivers with five receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns. During Week 1, Pray was the only WR in the IFL to catch two of more touchdowns. However, it was RB Washaun Ealey who proved to be a playmaker near the endzone. The former University of Georgia product got into the endzone three times.
The Titans defense truly stood out vs Iowa. The Titans sacked the Iowa quarterbacks eight times, tied for third most in IFL history. The defensive line was led by DL Jermiah Price, who gained four sacks and was named IFL Defensive Player of the Week. Titans DL Xzavie Jackson also had three sacks. Rookie DB Arius Wright made his IFL debut known as he had two interceptions.
The Titans will look to slow down the Storm offense led by QB Martevious Young and RB Tory Harrison. Young was a multi-use threat in week 1 as he threw for three touchdowns and rushed for two more. Harrison was named IFL Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 91 yards and four touchdowns. The Storm currently lead the league with 131 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns after Week 1.
The Storm are led defensively by two-time IFL Defensive Player of the Year Tyler Knight. Knight is the IFL's all-time leader in tackles. Knight had three tackles, a pass breakup and a blocked kick last week vs Bemidji. The Storm defense, in total, blocked four Axemen kicks last week.
